Ils ont joué entre autre Problem Child, Whole Lotta Rosie, Let There Be Rock, Sin City etc..

Friday 26th October 1979, Four of us travelled 35miles from Bishop Auckland to see our favourite band AC DC playing at the Newcastle Mayfair. We arrived a couple of hours before the doors opened and managed to get near the front of the queue.

As the doors opened we streamed in and headed for the stage, I managed to find a place at the front, left of centre of the stage – perfect. Two hours later I wasn’t so sure, it was hot and sweaty with more and more people crowding round me.

It was time for the support, a new band from Sheffield called Def Leppard, they had just released their first single “Getcha Rocks off” which was a catchy “riffy” song and I was looking forward to hear what else they played. I wasn’t disappointed as they raced through their set, I wanted to save my film in my camera for AC DC but took a shot of Steve Clark, Leppards Guitarist as he did pose for me.

Next the main event, by this time I was soaking with sweat and getting pushed hard against the stage, it got worse as the crowd was moving like a sea of people, dragging me left and right against the stage but I wasn’t going anywhere, the atmosphere was amazing, this is what I had been waiting for as the lights went down and the first bars of Live Wire rang out Angus came flying onstage with his Green Velvet school uniform on, Bon bare chested with a denim cut off jacket and faded jeans, posing to the crowd, it was amazing as the crowd screamed and shouted “Angus” “Angus” “Angus”

They played their set including Problem Child, Whole Lotta Rosie and Let there be Rock, sin city and more, the crowd went wild with Angus prancing about and Bon Geeing up the audience .

I managed to get a few photos but was getting buffeted about and squashed against the front of stage, eventually, towards the end of their set I had to bail out before I passed out and make my way to the bar for some water (and a beer later).

I watched the end of the gig from the back but will never forget the fantastic atmosphere and music from that night, I still think of Bon Scott, he will always be the AC DC front man for me. I saw them again at the mayfair in 1980, January 25th a month before Bon died. Never Forgotten
