Bon Scott's love letters to be sold

LOVE letters from AC/DC's legendary singer Bon Scott to his former wife are to be auctioned.

Irene Thornton, Scott's wife from 1972-74, will sell the intimate writings of rock's quintessential wild man in April.
The letters, written from 1973-75, are a glimpse of Scott the romantic and reluctant rock star.

They reveal Scott as a lovestruck, ambitious and, after AC/DC conquered the world, a lonely and confused man.

"There is 20-30 chicks a day I can have the choice of," Scott wrote. "But I can't stand that. Mixed up." He's also romantic. Pretending to be a friend of his, he wrote to Irene: "There is no one in the whole wide world he loves more. Bon is very lonely and he misses his beautiful young spouse with all his heart."

He writes of drug use, heavy drinking and his disdain for rivals Skyhooks.

"I reckon we'd have to be the hottest band in the country at the moment," he wrote in 1975. "The next album will tell."

He also wrote of life on the road: "Got no booze, no dope and no body to play with except my own."

Scott's letters, his shaving mirror and a vinyl test pressing of AC/DC's Jailbreak album will be sold at Leonard Joel, South Yarra.

Scott died, aged 33, of alcohol poisoning in London in 1980. Irene lives in Melbourne.

The upcoming Autumn Joel’s Catalogue Auction will feature some very important and unique 1970’s Rock ‘n’ Roll items concerning Bon Scott, the late front man of iconic and world renown Australian rock band AC/DC.

Since their debut in late 1973, AC/DC has sold over 90 million albums world wide, placing them in the top 5 highest selling rock groups in American history, signifying the extent of their international popularity and acclaim.

Bon Scott fronted the band from 1974 until his death in 1980, when AC/DC was at its peak of fame and popularity, and Bon has since then been forever remembered as one of the most charismatic and legendary front men of all time.

The items up for auction have been provided by Bon Scott’s ex-wife, Irene, and are from a collection of extremely intimate and personal effects. These include Bon’s shaving mirror, in a black vinyl zip case bearing his name, a photo album with approximately 75 black and white and colour photographs, including wedding and family shots of Bon and Irene, and a collection of cards and letters written by Bon containing personal thoughts and emotions during the final years of his life.

Another very special item up for auction is a 1974 AC/DC vinyl test pressing of High Voltage with the original 1st track being Jailbreak not Little Lover which was released on the 1975 Dirty Deeds album.

ça c'est sûr et même cher à mon avis...
toujours est-il que des collectioneurs poussent le trip jusqu'à se procure des objets personnels de leurs idoles. je prefere faire la difference entre l'homme et l'artiste, même si pour des types comme bon c'est assez difficile de faire la difference

je trouve totalement irrespectueux de vendre des biens personnels d'une personne ! C'est irrespectueux envers Bon ! C'est comme vendre la vie privée de quelqu'un...

Ben ouai mais tu sais ya même des livres sur la guerre 14/18 ou il n'y a que des lettres personelles de soldats donc bon...

ouai c'est vrai j'y avais pas pensé... Les circonstances sont pas les memes...

je remonte ce post pour que vous puissiez voir ces documents quand même exceptionnels...

je me "tairai" pour l'instant quand aux raisons d'Irene pour vendre ces documents "intimes" -mais que nous ne connaitrions pas aussi si cela serait resté en sa possession..ne l'oubliez pas !-

30 000 Dollars pour les lettres, c'est Honteux, enfin elle doit surement avoir ses raisons mais bon, c'est quand même un peu gagner de l'argent sur le dos d'un être chère, c'était quand même son Mari

Des fois t'as pas le choix... comme j'ai dit dans un autre sujet, tous les pays n'ont pas la Sécu... tu peux te ramasser avec une facture de 50 000 $ pour des soins "lourds".
Comme j'ai dit dans l'autre post, je n'insinue rien, je ne connais pas la situation de la madame, mais bon, quand tu en arrives à vendre les souvenirs intimes, c'est que tu dois avoir de bonnes raisons !
